두 개의 절이 「not only ~ but also ...」 표현으로 연결되어 있다. 첫 번째 [ ]는 the events를 수식하는 관계절이고, 두 번째 [ ]는 decide의 목적어 역할을 하는 명사절이다.

그러므로 이 저자들은 자신들이 서술하는 사건이 일어난 한참 후에 글을 쓰고 있었을 뿐만 아니라, 우리는 그들이 정확하게 인용되었는지 그러지 않았는지를 결정하고자 애쓴다는 추가적인 문제도 가지고 있다.

Only와 결합된 어구가 문두에 놓여 강조됨으로써 조동사 can이 주어 we 바로 앞에 놓이는 어순이 되었다. 두 번째 [ ]는 realise의 목적어 역할을 하는 명사절이다.

다른 문화의 방식을 이해하게 될 때 비로소 우리는 그 문화가 우리 문화처럼 인간적일 뿐이며 완전히 틀린 것도 완전히 옳은 것도 아니라는 것을 깨닫기 시작할 수 있다.

Bacon의 표현으로는, ‘이해를 강요하고 좌우하며, 모두를 혼란에 빠뜨리며, 무수한 공허한 논쟁과 헛된 공상 속으로 사람들을 끌고 가는,’ 말에 있다고 추정된 힘이 쟁점이었다.

그것은 밤을 낮으로 바꾸었을 뿐 아니라, 자연광이 들어올 수 없는 큰 건물에서 우리가 살고 일할 수 있게 해 주었다.
